Dental Implants Procedure in Indianapolis

Visit Our Indianapolis Office for a Solution to Your Missing Tooth / Teeth

In its most basic form the placement of a dental implant requires a preparation into the bone using either hand osteotomes or precision drills with highly regulated speed to prevent burning or pressure necrosis of the bone. After a variable amount of time to allow the bone to grow on to the surface of the implant, a tooth or group of teeth can be placed on the implant. The amount of time required to place an implant will vary depending on the experience of the practitioner, the quality and quantity of the bone and the difficulty of the individual situation.

What Is the Procedure for A Tooth Replacement?

Planning A Single Tooth Implant in Indianapolis

>> Planning for Dental Implants

Prior to treatment Dr. Falender will have taken a CT scan and dental x-rays to determine the best location for your dental implant. Where single implants are being used side-by-side, it is important to make sure there is adequate room in between them so the implant crowns can be fabricated correctly. If the single tooth being replaced is particularly small, for example a lower front incisor, then Dr. Falender may need to use a smaller diameter implant, called a mini dental implant.

>> Treatment for Dental Implants

The actual surgery can be carried out under local anesthetic and requires a small incision to be made in your gums, exposing the underlying bone. After carefully inserting the implant into its preplanned location,

>> Healing Cap

Dr. Falender will place a healing cap over the dental implant before stitching up the gum. The healing cap protects the implant, allowing it to heal and integrate with the surrounding bone and it helps to shape the gum tissue. Shaping or managing the gum tissue provides the best aesthetic results so that when your implant tooth is placed, it will be surrounded with the gum tissue creating a pleasing effect that will be easy to keep clean.

>> Temporary Tooth

At this stage we can provide you with a temporary tooth to be worn while the implant heals so there is no need to worry that you will be left with a gappy smile during treatment. Once the implant has fully healed and Dr. Falender is satisfied it is strong and stable, we can make and fit your new crown.

What Is the Dental Implant Placement Process?

>> Planning Stage:

Planning is the most important part of the process. A carefully and intelligently thought-out treatment plan is the difference between success and failure. Sometimes we may require specialized imaging to visualize the bone condition and three-dimensional viewing to ensure proper placement.

>> Implant Placement:

Our Indianapolis Implants specialist will place the dental implant in the ideal spot to form the gum tissue around the implant.

>> Healing:

The bone around the dental implant will grow and integrate with the new Straumann implant in a matter of a few weeks.

>> Temporary Restoration:

If the dental implant is in a readily visible area, a temporary restoration may be placed for esthetic purposes while the site heals.

>> Abutment Placement:

When healing is complete, the dental implant abutment is placed to connect the dental implant to the porcelain crown.

>> Porcelain Crown:

Once our ceramist fabricates the new porcelain crown to exact specifications, we bond the crown to the abutment.

What Will the Dental Implants Procedure Feel Like?

Getting dental implants in our Indianapolis office is virtually painless. The science of dental implantology has evolved so rapidly from its early days that it is now a very predictable procedure. Modern implant dentistry began about 25 years ago. However, in the past 10 years, it has been truly perfected.

In our Indianapolis office we have achieved a nearly 100% success rate for dental implant placement. Very rarely an implant may not take, but this can easily be resolved with a new implant placement. Dental implants will feel, look, and function like natural teeth. People often tell us they can’t even remember where the dental implants were actually placed in their mouth because they really look and feel like natural teeth.
